Lessons 4 kids

Recommended resources:

1. Get a good pair of binoculars. Cheap binoculars will make it difficult to see the birds, and that will just frustrate your kids. You don’t need to spend a fortune, but get something that is of good quality. Also, make sure they are kid-sized so they can easily hold them and focus them.

2. Dress for the occasion. Your kids are going to want to explore, so make sure they wear comfortable clothes that they can move around in. Boots are always a good idea in case they end up in mud or water. And don’t forget hats and sunscreen!

3. Bring snacks and drinks. Bird watching can be a bit boring if you’re not seeing any birds, so bring along some snacks and drinks to keep everyone happy. grapes, crackers, and cheese sticks are all good options. And don’t forget the insect repellent!

4. Invest in a good guidebook. A guidebook will help you identify the different types of birds you see, which will make the experience more enjoyable for everyone involved. A lot of public libraries have them, so you may be able to borrow one before you buy your own copy.

5. Join a club or group. There are lots of bird watching clubs and groups out there, so joining one is a great way to meet other families who enjoy the hobby too. Many of these groups offer activities specifically for kids, so it’s worth checking out what’s available in your area.
